Understanding that the closer the production facility is to the coffee plantation makes all the difference in ensuring that the coffee tastes the best it can. It ensures that there is no degradation of the beans while on route to the factory.

Once the beans have been processed, they are freeze dried to preserve as much of their taste as possible. The biggest challenge here was to understand the perfect balance of utilizing the freeze-drying process and obtaining that perfect coffee flavor. It took much experimentation to identify the optimal operating conditions necessary to perfectly preserve the coffee.

This method of making instant coffee is not new, but the focus has included the process to consider the quality of the beans. Barinsta Coffee was started on the idea that instant coffee can taste just as good as freshly roasted coffee without the often-challenging equipment needed for brewing. What it boiled down to was the quality of the coffee while still retaining the ease of making it.

Barinsta Coffee realized that their focus had to shift from experimenting with the preservation process to finding the perfect coffee to grow – which they did after many years of looking. They were able to identify a particular Arabica strain that would be able to provide the exact flavor when prepared and freeze dried.

If you know your coffees, you will know that Arabica coffee can be a challenge to cultivate – making it an expensive product. This is especially truly when you consider that Barinsta understood that they needed to find the perfect location to grow the selected coffee. The only area that could be considered perfect was found in the volcanic region of Dak-lak in Vietnam. An area already famous for its coffee industry – only bolstering Barinsta’s credibility.

Having cultivated the perfect bean for freeze drying, Barinsta realized that they were not serving the full market as a hefty price tag could exclude some coffee enthusiasts. That is when they realized they could utilize the Robusta variety that was already being grown in the same region. Offering a product that was less expensive, but at the same time more caffeinated – providing consumers with more choice than before. The focus still being on quality.

Their hard and diligent work paid off with the following products being developed:

  • A straight and undiluted medium roasted instant coffee blend with double the strength of traditional coffees
  • A freeze dried coffee pouch with non-dairy creamer – with the option of sugar or no sugar
  • The Barinsta Signature Box – a visual box of coffees designed to show the consumer the full process of how the coffee is made. Extending and building on the idea of being open and transparent
