Malcolm Weatherspoon scored 17 of his 21 factors within the first half as Mountain View boys basketball held on for a 59-56 season-opening win over Rogers-Puyallup on Saturday.

Weatherspoon had 12 factors within the first quarter to spur the host Thunder to a 40-25 halftime lead.

Rogers pulled inside 54-49 coming into the fourth quarter. Ryan Avary scored 12 of his game-high 25 factors within the third.

Tre’von Hughes-Farmer added 10 factors for Mountain View.

UNION 50, GRAHAM-KAPOWSIN 41 — Kody Holcomb scored 10 factors to steer a stability assault by Union because the Titans gained their season opener.

Holcomb and Daniel Kirichenko every scored 5 factors within the first quarter because the Titans jumped out to a 20-13 lead. Union then stored Graham-Kapowsin at bay the remainder of the best way.

Drew Hill and Pat Howe added eight every for Union.

FORT VANCOUVER 62, TENINO 42 — Josiah Jointer scored 21 factors because the Trappers opened the season with a non-league win.

Liam Cvitkovich added 13 factors and Isaiah Barajas added 12 for Fort, which jumped out to a 35-19 halftime lead.

Women Basketball

YELM 35, HOCKINSON 24 – Dannika Grant had eight factors and 7 rebounds because the Hawks opened the season with a highway loss.

Freshman Charlotte Newton had a team-high 11 rebounds and 4 of Hockinson’s 20 steals.
