A Hudson’s Bay Excessive Faculty instructor below investigation for allegations of sexual misconduct with a scholar has resigned.

Vancouver’s faculty board president made the announcement on the board’s assembly tonight.

English instructor Shadbreon Gatson, 43, was accused of getting intercourse with a 16-year-old feminine scholar in school in 2013. He’ll stay on paid administrative depart till Feb. 3, the efficient date of his resignation.

“We do not wish to continue paying public funds for administrative leave any longer than legally necessary, therefore we have added his name to the employee report this evening,” Board President Kathy Decker mentioned within the assembly. “Because it allows us to take action now — rather than waiting for the outcome of an investigation and then taking any necessary action — we plan to accept the resignation.”

The allegations got here to mild after Gatson’s Dec. 20 arrest on suspicion of first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor. In response to courtroom information, a former scholar, now 27, reported to Bay workers and Vancouver police in early December that she was sexually victimized in 2013 when she was 16.

Prosecutors dropped the case Dec. 26 as a result of the statute of limitations expired. Gatson presently isn’t dealing with any legal fees.

The Vancouver faculty district, nevertheless, has employed a 3rd occasion to conduct two investigations: one of many allegations themselves and the opposite of the best way they had been dealt with.

The investigations will proceed, and the district will proceed to speak its findings with the Workplace of Superintendent of Public Instruction and regulation enforcement, Decker mentioned.

“Please know this board and district leadership consider the alleged misconduct appalling and unacceptable,” Decker mentioned. “This board and district leadership understand that these events have disrupted the trust families extend to us when they send their children to school.”

Danielle Jokela, mom of two college students at Bay, attended Monday’s assembly to share her issues with the varsity board.

“When this whole thing came to light, it was frankly frightening to learn that this particular individual had multiple investigations,” she mentioned.

Gatson obtained two “letters of admonishment” through the 16 years he taught in Vancouver colleges, based on paperwork launched by the district.

Decker mentioned the district will share the result of its investigations as soon as they’re concluded.

“Anytime there’s something that happens that violates the trust that we work so hard to secure with families when they send their students to us, it has an impact,” Superintendent Jeff Snell mentioned.
