Book Birds is a student-led non-profit organisation with a mission to improve literacy rates and provide educational opportunities for children living in rural, impoverished communities across Brazil.
It’s no secret that education is one of the most important things in the world. It opens doors, creates opportunities, and helps create a better future. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to a good education. This is especially true in a developing country like Brazil, where resources are limited and poverty is widespread.
More than 27 people million in Brazil are below the poverty line, earning less than US$2 per day. Children from low-income backgrounds are significantly more likely to drop out of school, enter the workforce early, and experience a lifetime of poverty.
Inadequate education is one of the leading causes of poverty. By improving Brazil’s education system, we can help break the cycle of poverty and provide a better future for generations to come.
Book Birds is committed to making this happen through a simple yet effective model: we collect book donations and send them to children living in communities. We also visit these children to track their reading progress and ensure that they benefit from the books we send.
The idea for Book Birds started when our founder, a Brazilian student, saw first-hand the struggles that many of her peers faced in getting access to quality education. Too often, [she or he] saw how her classmates from less privileged backgrounds were left behind simply because they didn’t have the same resources as their wealthier peers.
Determined to do something about it, she started Book Birds to collect and donate books to children living in rural communities across Brazil. But that was just the start. In addition to collecting and distributing books, Book Birds also goes out into the communities we serve to talk to children and their families about the importance of reading. We also offer guidance and support to help them make the most of the books we donate.
Since our founding, Book Birds has helped hundreds of children in Brazil get access to some of the greatest books ever written. We’ve seen first-hand how books can open up new worlds for children, and we are committed to making sure that every child in Brazil has the opportunity to experience the power of reading.
If you’re interested in helping us achieve our mission, please consider donating a book you no longer need. Every book we receive helps us get one step closer to our goal of improving literacy in Brazil.
No child deserves to be left behind simply because they don’t have access to quality resources. Your donation can make a difference. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to learn more about our work.
Thank you for your support!
