CAMAS — Camas Metropolis Council members on Monday narrowly permitted a $6.17 million property buy that can ultimately home the town’s public works operations heart.
Council members Tim Hein, Leslie Lewallen and Jennifer Senescu abstained from voting.
Public Works Director Steve Wall reiterated the necessity for a brand new operations heart. A 2022 report discovered the town’s 30-year-old public works constructing, on 3.7 acres at Polk Road and Eighth Avenue, was not ample to serve the rising metropolis and its public works workers.
“The facility houses all the folks who complete the majority of the maintenance throughout the city,” Wall instructed council members Monday night time.
The ability, inbuilt 1994, homes 50 public works workers, in addition to a number of kit and automobiles. Wall mentioned it’s bursting on the seams.
A brand new operations heart would doubtless serve the town’s wants for an additional 40 to 50 years, Wall instructed the council on Monday.
Town has agreed to pay $6.17 million for 14.4 acres in an undeveloped space of Camas.
Wall mentioned the town will faucet its utility funds, normal fund and different inner funds that help the general public works division.
Council member Marilyn Boerke mentioned that as an administrative worker of the Camas College District, she understands how troublesome it’s to seek out flat, buildable land in Camas.
“We’re beyond the need for an operations center,” Boerke mentioned. “So I am in favor of this.”
Council members Bonnie Carter, John Nohr and John Svilarich agreed with Boerke and voted to approve the land buy.
