DeepSquare: Professional Sustainable Decentralized Cloud Ecosystem for Web applications, Web3 dApps and High Performance Computing.
Founded in July 2021, DeepSquare is a registered Swiss association fronted by project leaders and co-founders Diarmuid Daltún and Dr. Florin Dzeladini. DeepSquare aims to provide a true decentralized sustainable alternative to the cloud oligopoly, upholding the spirit and original values of Web and beyond. The founders have backgrounds in AI: Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Cloud & Hosting, Large-Scale High-Performance Infrastructure & Architecture, Sustainability, Banking and international Sales & Marketing.
The High-Performance Computing Market size is projected to reach over $55 Million by 2030 – a CAGR of 7% until 2030, due to the rise of AI, IoT, and blockchain computer-intensive projects. In addition to this somewhat specialized market, cloud Hyperscalers today deploy ~76% of new compute-capacity. DeepSquare’s goal is to empower professional cloud with a decentralized interoperable heterogeneous grid, community led, transparent and fair.
Alongside the world-class team, DeepSquare has attracted a network of advisors with domain expertise in crypto, blockchain, economics, supercomputing and sustainability. DeepSquare has developed a full High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Cloud stack (Cluster Factory[1]) to enable the association itself and like-minded Universities, Research Centers and [super]regional Cloud Providers to join the ecosystem and to add HPC as a Service[2]to their portfolios.
“Innovative people looking to create something different want to deviate from traditional practices. Imagine having only one grocer in your city, wouldn’t that be strange? Why should people be content with certain aspects of their life being monopolized? Freedom is something that is important to maintain, we don’t need to create more oligopolies” – Dr. Florin Dzeladini
DeepSquare is poised to disrupt the cloud-industry and challenge the status quo by turning everything on its head. While hyperscalers rely on closed, centralized systems, DeepSquare promotes transparency and operates in a decentralized and open network centered around a blockchain compute protocol.
This inclusive, community-led project provides all participants the opportunity to get involved on their terms. One of the principal aims of the DeepSquare project is to have fair and transparent pricing on the DeepSquare Marketplace as well as the underlying computing resources opening up the once exclusive world to innovators from all corners of the earth.
Although HPC in particular is solving some of the world’s most complex problems: training AI for autonomous vehicles, bringing Metaverse to life, developing treatments and vaccines for illnesses and rendering blockbuster movies, this increased computing-demand brings with it potential additional burden on our environment. DeepSquare has Sustainability at its core, providing a blueprint for environmentally sound practices and technologies to minimize the energy footprint, by employing liquid-cooling and by promoting heat-reuse.
DeepSquare’s proof-of-concept cluster at the HES-ÉPFL[3] Energypolis campus in the Energypolis building in Sion is connected to Sion’s district heating network. This allows the recovered heat to contribute to the city’s district heating. The cluster is equipped with the latest Nvidia GPUs and AMD CPUs and DeepSquare’s full software stack Cloud Factory.
“DeepSquare is a multifaceted project, with a talented and passionate community and ecosystem. Together we are upholding the original promises of the Web, by creating a decentralized, transparent alternative to large-tech, allowing all to retain ownership of their data.” – Diarmuid Daltún
The Project started with the investment token (DPS) and associated smart contracts on the Ethereum Blockchain but has since migrated to the Avalanche Blockchain, which better aligns with DeepSquare’s values: fast, fair and eco-friendly, 35,000 time more efficient than Ethereum and 200,000 times more efficient than Bitcoin[4].
In late 2022, as its own blockchain on an Avalanche subnet, the DeepSquare compute-protocol will allow third parties to join the Grid in a trustless fashion, provide transparency and ensure all participants play by the rules.
The project has raised over $2.9M to date with over 300 investors and continues to grow. DeepSquare has already made available an impressive application library to support AI, simulation and rendering workloads. DeepSquare is partnering and integrating with complimentary blockchain projects such as Filecoin (for long term storage as an alternative to S3) and is preparing to work directly with several other NFT and Metaverse projects across multiple blockchain-ecosystems.
