Former Kamala Harris aides urge her to push for cease-fire between Israel and Hamas

PoliticsFormer Kamala Harris aides urge her to push for cease-fire between Israel and Hamas

Ex-officials of Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign have been collecting signatures and spreading a letter calling for her to “seek an immediate cease-fire” between Israel and Hamas, according to reports.

“We must mourn the tragic loss of Israeli life targeted by Hamas,” the draft letter, obtained by Politico, said. “However, we must firmly and unequivocally reject the Israeli government’s exploitation of these deaths to stage a retaliatory and genocidal campaign against civilians.”

The letter called Israel’s Gaza campaign a “genocide” and said the vice president should support the “Ceasefire Now Resolution” introduced by Rep. Cori Bush, Missouri Democrat, along with “independent investigations of human rights violations in Gaza.”

The White House and Congress have been quick to express their support for Israel, but that has not stopped a few House Democrats from saying they stand on the Palestinians’ side.

Earlier this month, Ms. Bush, along with fellow Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Andre Carson of Indiana, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania and Delia Ramirez of Illinois, introduced the “Ceasefire Now Resolution,” calling for the Biden administration to “immediately call for and facilitate de-escalation and a cease-fire” and “promptly send and facilitate the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.”

Ms. Bush, Ms. Tlaib, Ms. Lee and other members of the House’s Squad of far-left Democrats have been called out for their stances since Hamas’ Iran-backed terrorists attacked Israel on Oct. 7.

Ms. Harris’ former aides aren’t the only ex-campaign officials targeting their old boss. More than 260 staffers from Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 presidential run signed a letter to the Massachusetts Democrat urging her to call for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

“We spent months, some of us years, fighting for you because we believed you shared our dream for the world to be a place in which every human being can live in dignity. Your lack of moral clarity in the face of the genocide of Palestinians is a direct contradiction of the values your campaign stood for,” the letter read.

The letter also urged Ms. Warren to “condemn Israeli violations of international law and call for independent investigations of human rights violations in Gaza … advocate for de-escalation in the region” and “publicly call for an immediate ceasefire.”

The Washington Times has reached out to Ms. Harris’ office.
