LA CENTER — Senior evening for Carlos Balboa Ulloa and the La Middle boys soccer staff Wednesday marked an event to have a good time the Wildcats’ current successes.

“Last year, I ended with about 22 guys. This year, I have 36 guys, so we’ve been able to really grow,” Burris mentioned.

Burris spent a number of years working as an assistant coach beneath his dad, Keenan Burris, the longtime head coach of the Evergreen girls and boys soccer packages, earlier than taking his first head teaching job at La Middle forward of the 2024 season.

“This was a fun, exciting program. The opportunity came up and I was starting to be ready to branch out on my own,” Burris mentioned. “It was really a program where I could come in and build something, and see if we could look forward to find success. To go from year to year to find more wins is exactly what we’re looking for.”

After breaking by to the Class 1A District 4 playoffs final 12 months, La Middle (10-4-2) seized that momentum this season and made a push into the higher echelon of the Trico League.

“Throughout the season, I think we’ve just grown as a team,” Bradley mentioned. “At the start we weren’t really there, but throughout the season we just grew during practice, and outside of it, we’ve done activities as a team to just build that (bond). And it’s got us here.”

“Also, having a couple minutes after practice with our coaches, just hanging out, having a good time, really just bonding with the staff, I think has really paid off on and off the field,” Balboa Ulloa added.

Whereas seniors Bradley and Smith are four-year varsity gamers, work and different time commitments saved Balboa Ulloa from taking part in till his senior season, Burris mentioned.

However with some convincing from classmates and coaches, the senior exterior again joined the Wildcats this season to offer them some added management on the again line alongside Bradley at middle again and Smith at goalkeeper.

Over one season, Balboa Ulloa’s function is one thing of a conduit for La Middle’s program, offering help for his fellow seniors and setting an instance for youthful gamers to comply with within the coming years. Each little bit helps because the Wildcats proceed to construct.

“Coming late into the program, I want to give all I can give for the team,” Balboa Ulloa mentioned.
