On the last official winter weekend of this year, SunIce Festival came alive in St. Moritz, Switzerland and brought the 21/22 ski season to a loud close. The party people in the mountains of St. Moritz danced with Charlotte de Witte, Alan Walker, Deborah De Luca & Co. to international electro beats on the sold-out festival grounds of SunIce Festival. With a total of 10,000 visitors, the organizers draw a positive conclusion.
According to a press release, the heads of the SunIce Festival, Loris Moser (24) and Quirin Hasler (22), had tired eyes in the morning of the third day of the festival, but both radiated pure satisfaction. After three years of waiting due to the pandemic, their dream of a big festival in Salastrains finally came true. «We were overwhelmed that we were able to launch the first edition of SunIce being completely sold out. The good atmosphere and the positive feedback from the visitors make us feel like we’re just a few meters higher above sea level,” says CEO Loris Moser. The festival newcomer in the Upper Engadine impressed with almost 50 DJs play four stages. The diverse program offered more than just music.
Lifestyle experience: music, art and winter sports
In addition to the EDM and techno music, another highlight was the live painting performance by artist Ona Sadkowsky amidst the winter wonderland and the onset of snowfall. In addition, festival fans were able to immerse themselves in a virtual art gallery curated by Sven Eisenhut. “It’s inspiring to see the merging of music, art and modern lifestyle up here in the winter landscape,” the director of the photo basel art fair was quoted as saying in the statement. The snowfall on Friday gave skiers and snowboarders in the Corviglia ski area the first powder runs in a long time. “The snowfall created a special atmosphere. Before that, we would probably have been surrounded by green patches in the landscape,” says Quirin Hasler.
St. Moritz hotels benefit from the festival
The village of St. Moritz was also happy about the many visitors. Along with the festival ticket, there was the option of booking an overnight stay in a hotel of your choice – for every budget. The festival’s partner hotels, such as the Kempinski St. Moritz or the Hotel Reine Victoria, were fully booked on the weekend of the festival. “We are pleased that the hotels in St. Moritz were also able to benefit from the festival after this difficult time,” says Loris Moser.
The festival founders won’t take a break for the next few days. They are already busy with the next SunIce Festival. “We want to think even bigger, so that visitors from beyond the country’s borders become aware of the SunIce Festival,” reveals Loris Moser. With lots of impressions and experiences gathered at the premiere, they already have their eyes on the next edition of their lifestyle festival.
