Tori Spelling on her no-water rule
Tori Spelling compares herself to a cactus.
The actress has a confession: she completely hates water. In reality, she avoids ingesting it in any respect prices, choosing coconut water, soda, or—on particularly aggravating days—ginger ale as a substitute.
“I don’t drink water. And when I say I don’t drink water, I don’t drink water,” Spelling, 51, revealed on the March 11 episode of her MisSPELLING podcast.
“How I’m still living, no one knows. I’m like a cacti. Just water me once in a while, and I somehow survive. But I have an aversion to it.”
If that wasn’t quirky sufficient, the 90210 alum additionally shared that she has a long-standing suspicion of drinks handed to her by others.
Recalling when her ex, Dean McDermott, not too long ago gave her a ginger ale, her first thought wasn’t gratitude—it was potential poisoning.
“I’m Aaron Spelling’s daughter, hello,” she joked, name-dropping her late father, the mastermind behind iconic TV dramas like Dynasty, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Melrose Place. “The creator of drama-rama storytelling.”
McDermott, understandably confused by her response, reassured her, saying, “‘You’re the mother of my children. Why would I want to poison you?’ And I was like, ‘Listen. It’s not personal. I think this about everybody.’”
Apparently, this isn’t a brand new behavior.
Spelling recalled that as a baby, each time her mom, Sweet, would give her medication—usually crushed up in Coke syrup—she would nonetheless ask, “What’d you put in here? Like, what are you giving me?”
Her mom’s exasperated response? “What, you think I’m trying to poison you?”
“This goes back to childhood,” Spelling admitted.
“This crazy, irrational fear of handed-over liquids from other people. I don’t drink water. I don’t call it a fear of water. I just like to say I hate water. I have an allergy to water.”
Regardless of her aversion, Spelling made an exception when she was pregnant, ingesting water for the sake of her 5 children—Liam, 17, Stella, 16, Hattie, 13, Finn, 12, and Beau, 8.
“You have to hydrate the baby growing in you. But in my mind, I was like, ‘I’m drinking for them, not myself.’”
Lately, she’s experimenting with a brand new hydration method.
“I’m trying this new thing since I don’t like water. I’m like, okay, I actually enjoy the taste of coconut water.”
However in the case of drinks, there’s one factor she has no hassle downing, “I can guzzle, like, a glass of wine in, like, two seconds. No problem,” she quipped. “But I take a few sips of water and swallow gently, and all of a sudden, I’m like, ‘I wanna puke.’”
